Ryder Cup 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 11:45 am

In addition to what we will post about our approach to golf, periodically I will check in about the Ryder Cup to be played here in Louisville in 2008. CLICK HERE for more information. Tuesday I have a meeting with the PGA about producing a putter for the event from wood we obtained from the golf course. (Mark Wilson, the superintendant at Valhalla, and his crew have been a really big help!) The PGA has been so nice to our small company and community and was more than gracious in considering this project. Right now we have some Cherry and Ash from off of Valhalla Golf Club, where the Ryder Cup will be held. I also have - found in the vaults pack in the plant - some Cork Oak that came from Valderrama, site of the Ryder Cup in 1997 in Spain, so I can produce a very special putter of both an American Species from Valhalla and something pertaining to a European host course. Putters will be for sale exclusively through the PGA only, Louisville Golf is just the manufacturer of this special putter, we will not distribute this putter. As it develops I can get you information on how to obtain this special putter through the PGA. It will probably be a while however - the product is still in development at the earliest of stages. Stay tuned.

“The Louisville Golf Club Company”

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 1:57 pm

This will be the first post in a series that provides full transparency on our marketing plan for 2007. I feel this is important for us to communicate due to the nature of our uniqueness - we are the last company still developing a full product line of wood-centric golf clubs. As part of our mission we feel it is our charge to make sure “nature’s gift to the game of golf” still is apart of the golf-equipment landscape as a choice for golfers. I am also starting this series in order to enlist your help, we do not make wood clubs in a vacuum, without you to play them we all have to go out and get real jobs. So what I will say first is that we decided to go back to our longer name = The Louisville Golf Club Company. This was our corporate name (and it always was on the books) when what we did was solely manufacture Persimmon woods. For the better part of our 33 years we were a manufacturer for the likes of The Ben Hogan Co., Spalding and Wilson to name just three. That is not to say for economy’s sake we will not refer to ourselves as Louisville Golf, the return to the original name is a mouthful for sure, especially in this soundbite society we now live in, but in places where it is appropriate to use we will begin to use it with pride. This move represents for us a refusal to apologize for who we are and signifies the pride we have in being a successful niche company, quietly making a profit and having fun making cool golf clubs. There is something congruent with the sound of a well-struck Persimmon golf club and our approach, but I’m still thinking on that one. More to come…

Persimmon bLog

I welcome you to the Persimmon bLog, the official blog of The Louisville Golf Club Company. Our hope for this new medium is to unite our type of golfer in a place where we can gather to read, share and be uplifted by the Spirit of the game. We know the golfer who seeks us out is a little different than the mainstream golfer, and perhaps more in touch with the true meaning of the game. By participating in this blog you will help define better who that golfer is, and in turn hopefully enrich all who visit their experience of this wonderful game that teaches us so much about life and ourselves.
