The “Fancy Face Putter” is beautifully made. I get compliments on it very often. But besides it’s beauty the putter’s functionality is superb. When I first started using this type of putter I was used to the modern perimeter weighted investment cast type. Toe and heel strikes were all but forgiven with the large oval sweet spot. The sweet spot on the “Fancy Face” is considerably smaller. Honestly, my initial putting performance was not very good. When the ball was struck on the heel or toe, I missed pretty badly. The feedback I felt through the hickory shaft was instantaneous and brutally honest. I really thought my putting stroke was better than it really was. I immediately began to concentrate on hitting the smaller sweet spot and to my surprise, putts started to roll in. I can’t remember the last time I missed the sweet spot. I was also worried about long putts. I wasn’t sure if it would hold up on a 90 foot putt. I set up to putt across our practice green and gave it a whack…the ball rolled off the far side of the green with ease and the putter felt stable. I own about ten putters and I love this one. If you prefer to pick up your ball with the back of your putter, this one won’t work. But, the way I see it, if you can pick up your ball from the green with the back of your putter, you’ve just missed. I prefer to take it out of the hole.
